The Portenta X8 is an industrial-grade System on Module (SOM) with a preloaded Linux OS, allowing device-independent software operation via its modular container architecture. It combines the power of Arduino with a Linux environment, enabling real-time tasks on the Arduino core and high-performance processing on Linux, making it ideal for applications requiring robust and flexible processing.
Powered by an NXP i.MX 8M Mini Cortex-A53 quad-core (up to 1.8GHz per core) and a Cortex-M4, alongside an STM32H747 dual-core Cortex-M7 (up to 480MHz) and Cortex-M4 (up to 240MHz), the Portenta X8 achieves impressive computational density with nine cores. This architecture allows you to run advanced applications, including AI and machine learning on the edge, while managing low-latency I/O and fieldbus control on dedicated cores.
Industrial-grade security features include PSA certification and the NXP SE050C2 crypto chip for secure key generation and OTA updates. Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Low Energy provide connectivity options, and the open-source Linux microPlatform OS supports OTA updates, enhancing cybersecurity with continuous updates from Foundries.io. Compatible with the Arduino ecosystem, the Portenta X8 suits diverse applications in industrial automation, smart agriculture, and digital signage.
